2023 Career Services Visit

Event Recap

On Thursday, May 4, Greater Dubuque Development Corporation hosted 25 college career services professionals from 18 colleges for our annual Career Services Visit. Together, participating colleges represented almost 100,000 college students!

The annual Career Services Visit event is a collaborative effort to connect regional career services staff with area employers and experiences so they can better communicate to students and young professionals what makes the Greater Dubuque region a place where YOU can be great here.

The group of 25 career services staff experienced a jam-packed 24 hours of learning and networking. They started their day with a tour of Cottingham & Butler locations at 800 Main Street and 700 Locust Street, which included the beautifully renovated Roshek Building and its many amenities available to employees.

Mayor Brad Cavanagh welcomed them to lunch on the Roshek Building rooftop where they heard from David Becker, President & CEO of Cottingham & Butler, and connected with employees and HR representatives from HTLF and Dubuque Bank & Trust.

Following lunch, all boarded the trolley for a drive to John Deere Dubuque Works where the group was greeted by Mark Dickson, General Manager and Alex Fernandez, Operations Manager.  After gearing up in safety glasses and high-vis safety vests, Mark and Alex personally lead them on an in-depth factory tour of multiple production lines. The tour concluded with a presentation by Ann Hartman, HR Manager regarding the company’s history, work culture, and employment opportunities and benefits.

The final stop was the Dupaco Community Credit Union Operations Center, also known as the Voices Building, in the Historic Millwork District. Career services staff learned about Dupaco’s history and work culture from Joe Hearn, President & CEO and Matt Hostert, Senior Recruiting Specialist. Participants enjoyed a tour of the operations center, which highlighted the preservation and repurposing of materials in the building renovation and the ways in which Dupaco values are woven into the ergonomics and layout of employee workspaces.  The night concluded with dinner on the Dupaco Skyscape & Rooftop, along with AccessDubuqueJobs.com investors who have previously participated in our Talent Dubuque program.
