For young families in Dubuque, an ongoing shortage of child care options has long been identified as a major concern.
The lack of viable options has forced many parents to stay home, exacerbating a workforce shortage that has plagued local businesses. Greater Dubuque Development is committed to addressing these needs – and signs of progress are already visible.
Child Care Solution Takes First Steps
In an effort to increase child care opportunities, Governor Kim Reynolds recently awarded $26.6 million through The Child Care Business Incentive Grant to 23 projects across Iowa. Three of those projects are in Dubuque County and account for nearly $7 million of the awarded grant funds, marking a major step forward in our efforts to close the local child care gap.
Child Care Survey
To better understand how child care issues are affecting families and impacting our workforce, Greater Dubuque Development commissioned a comprehensive survey of employers and child care providers in the Greater Dubuque region. The survey details existing child care needs and challenges as well as provides a road map for implementing innovative and effective solutions.
