Giese Companies

100 Years and Stronger than Ever

In 1923, Giese Sheet Metal Company was started by Edwin Giese, Sr. He ran the business out of his house (in his garage) in an alley off Rhomberg Ave. in Dubuque, Iowa. Edwin dreamed of growing his company and in 1935 he put that dream into action. He finally was able to purchase a small office building, located just across from what is now Sutton Pool. This was a huge move for Edwin because now he was really given an opportunity to expand. Over the next 20 or so years he continued to grow the business and ensure his three sons (Edwin Jr., Joseph, and William) had a business to manage and expand in the future.

In 1965, Edwin Jr., Joseph, and William moved Giese Sheet Metal to its current location at 2125 Kerper Blvd. With the move Giese also received a new company logo, the one still used today. This new building was almost three times the size of the old one, which gave the Giese Sheet Metal Co. another chance to expand.

In 1997, Charlie and Tom Giese expanded the business by starting Giese Manufacturing Co. This company started out slow and relatively small, but now has become equally as important to them and their growth. In 2002, Giese Manufacturing moved into its current location at 7025 Chavenelle Road. Since that time, the company has invested and re-invested in Dubuque on multiple occasions. In fact, in 2021, the company expanded for the 5th time in the Dubuque Industrial Center West.

Greater Dubuque Development has had the privilege of working with the Giese family on many of its projects. Moreover, the Giese’s have been a solid and steadfast supporter and investor of Greater Dubuque Development over the years. We thank and congratulate the Giese Family and their entire team. Dubuque’s economy and community is stronger because of the Giese family.
