Opportunity Dubuque is a nationally-recognized, collaborative job training effort developed in response to local employers’ needs for a skilled workforce. Northeast Iowa Community College, funded through Dubuque Works, offers training in 16 disciplines to fill high-demand and high-wage careers. Individuals complete industry-driven certifications to upgrade their skills or launch their careers. A win-win for students and employers, Opportunity Dubuque builds career pathways for students to enter the workforce and continue their education and training, while filling employers’ demand for talent.
Dubuque Works funding, provided by the City of Dubuque, Q Casino/Dubuque Racing Association, and the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors, helps eliminate any financial barriers by providing individuals with scholarships. From those without a high school diploma to dislocated workers, the program has provided opportunities to those who needed it most, while at the same time, strengthening local businesses.
Since 2012, Opportunity Dubuque has trained and employed hundreds of individuals in advanced manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, information technology, culinary, and construction and restoration careers.
