HR Professionals Cohort Focuses on Workplace Leave and Accommodation Scenarios

Event Recap

The HR Professionals Cohort met Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Northeast Iowa Community College’s Town Clock Business Center, with 39 attendees participating in a session focused on workplace leave, accommodations, and real-world FMLA and ADA scenarios. The discussion explored common situations employers face, including employee eligibility, medical certifications, intermittent leave, accommodations, and the ways FMLA and ADA requirements can overlap in practice.

A special thank you to Tracy Boczkowski, Director of Human Resources at Conlon Construction Co., for leading the session and sharing examples and experiences from the HR side of managing complex leave situations. The presentation sparked strong peer-to-peer discussion among attendees as participants talked through challenges employers regularly encounter and how different organizations approach them.

The HR Professionals Cohort is a complimentary benefit available to Workforce Solutions Investors and continues to provide a valuable space for HR professionals from across the Greater Dubuque region to connect, ask questions, and learn from one another through conversations centered on timely workplace topics and real-world experiences.

Planning is now underway for the next HR Professionals Cohort gathering scheduled for August 2026. As future sessions are developed, Greater Dubuque Development is seeking cohort members interested in sharing their expertise or co-facilitating discussions on emerging HR topics, workplace trends, and employer challenges. Those interested in suggesting a topic or volunteering to present are encouraged to contact Mandi Dolson, Director of Workforce Recruitment & Retention, at mandid@greaterdubuque.org or 563-557-9049 to help continue the collaborative, peer-to-peer learning environment that has become a hallmark of the network’s quarterly meetings.
