Greater Dubuque Development Corporation is proud to announce that Nic Hockenberry, Director of Workforce Programming, has been elected President of the Professional Developers of Iowa (PDI)—the statewide association representing economic development professionals and organizations working to advance Iowa’s communities and economy.
Hockenberry was officially recognized as President during the 2025 PDI Fall Conference, held September 24–26 in Ankeny, Iowa.
With a career rooted in collaboration and strategic impact, Hockenberry has helped lead efforts across the Greater Dubuque region to strengthen the workforce pipeline, expand housing opportunities, and build innovative partnerships between business, education, and government. His election as President of PDI recognizes both his leadership in the field and his commitment to growing opportunities for Iowans through thoughtful, community-centered development.
“PDI is where Iowa’s economic developers come together to learn, collaborate, and advocate for stronger communities,” said Hockenberry. “The work we do—whether supporting business development, attracting investment, or building the workforce—depends on these relationships. I’m honored to help lead this organization at a time when collaboration is more important than ever.”
About the Professional Developers of Iowa
Founded in 1973, PDI is Iowa’s leading network for economic development professionals. The nonprofit membership organization provides advocacy, training, and peer collaboration to promote investment, job growth, and community vitality across both urban and rural Iowa. Through its conferences, policy engagement, and educational programs, PDI supports members in strengthening the tools and strategies that enable communities to compete and thrive.
The association plays an important role in advancing statewide economic policy discussions, including workforce development, housing, and business competitiveness. PDI also partners with organizations such as the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Iowa Workforce Development, and local chambers and development groups to align statewide efforts toward shared prosperity.
A Legacy of Leadership
Hockenberry’s election continues a strong legacy of leadership from within Greater Dubuque Development. Jason White, Vice President of Business Services, is also a past President of PDI, underscoring Greater Dubuque Development’s continued influence and engagement at the state level.
Under Hockenberry’s leadership, PDI will continue to expand professional development opportunities for practitioners, champion key economic development tools, and foster connections between local, regional, and state partners working toward common goals.
