Event Recap
The inaugural Hello Dubuque! event was a resounding success, drawing more than 50 University of Northern Iowa (UNI) students and community connectors to the Gallagher Bluedorn Center for the Performing Arts. The evening was filled with energy, new relationships, and a glimpse into why the Greater Dubuque region is an exceptional place to live, work, and play.
Attendees enjoyed live music from Dubuque band Simple Company and an interactive painting activity led by artist Mercedes Pfab. Throughout the night, a panel of UNI students who interned in Dubuque this past summer shared firsthand experiences about the professional opportunities, welcoming community, and vibrant lifestyle they discovered in the region.
One-on-one conversations with Community Connectors offered students practical insights into Dubuque life—covering recreation, arts, dining, clubs and organizations, and volunteer opportunities. We thank the HR professionals from Cottingham & Butler, Kendall Hunt Publishing, Medical Associates, Kunkel & Associates, and the City of Dubuque, as well as representatives from Bicycle World and the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, for helping showcase the region.
The evening concluded with prize drawings, including a kayak from Theisen's Dubuque, a mountain bike from Bicycle World, and a weekend getaway in Dubuque. These giveaways also allowed organizers to gather valuable student feedback and build ongoing connections.
Hello Dubuque! not only highlighted the culture, creativity, and opportunities that set the region apart, but also gave students a true sense of community and belonging. Greater Dubuque Development is grateful to event partners Travel Dubuque, Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Dubuque, Dubuque County, and UNI Career Services for making this event possible.
