The AccessDubuqueJobs.com Hiring Fair, hosted by Greater Dubuque Development Corporation in partnership with IowaWorks, successfully brought together over 220 job seekers and nearly 50 regional employers on Thursday, September 5, 2024. The event, held at Steeple Square in Dubuque, was part of the community's rapid response efforts to support workers impacted by recent layoffs at John Deere Dubuque Works and Duluth Trading.
Job seekers from a variety of industries connected with employers from across the region representing manufacturing, financial and insurance services, warehouse logistics, administrative, IT, and more. The fair provided opportunities for entry-level to professional careers, and many employers conducted on-the-spot interviews.
"The event was exceptionally well-organized and provided a fantastic platform for connecting with a diverse group of job seekers," said Nancy Beadle, Area Recruiter Specialist for Nordstrom. "Throughout the day, I had the opportunity to engage with numerous talented individuals, each bringing unique skills and perspectives. The quality of candidates was impressive, and I am pleased to report that we have already extended several job offers to attendees we met at the fair. The Career Fair not only facilitated meaningful connections but also reinforced the value of such events in bridging the gap between employers and potential employees. I look forward to participating in future events and continuing to build these valuable relationships."

In addition to the hiring fair, attendees had access to valuable resources, including resume reviews and job application assistance from IowaWorks, and could explore training opportunities with Northeast Iowa Community College. Crescent Community Health Center was also present to provide health insurance and healthcare resources.
The event was an important step toward ensuring that workers affected by recent layoffs have the support and opportunities they need to stay in the Greater Dubuque region and continue to be part of the community.
