Two companies provide the Greater Dubuque area with competitive and reliable electric energy. Business and residential customers on the south side of the City of Dubuque including parts of the Dubuque Technology Park are serviced by Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative. The remainder of the City of Dubuque and surrounding areas are serviced by Alliant Energy.

Alliant Energy offers an interruptible electric rate to customers who utilize large power and light rates. This rate is intended to provide an incentive for customers wishing to curtail their operation, or provide self-generation during Alliant Energy's electric system peaks.

Alliant Energy offers incentives to customers who replace non-energy efficient equipment with energy efficient equipment or install energy-efficient equipment in new facilities. Incentives are established for specific equipment. Customers may also qualify for additional incentives by adding insulation to the structure's shell. Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC)
Company Overview: MVEC is a true cooperative, organized in 1935. It is a private, non-profit electric utility owned by the members it serves and was established to provide reliable electric service at the lowest possible cost as well as other non-utility related products and services.
Today, the membership covers a range of home, farm, business and commercial customers in Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson, and Jones Counties as well as portions of Buchanan, Cedar, Clayton, Clinton and Linn Counties.
Through a network of service companies, MVEC offers siting assistance, financing and incentive pricing. MVEC prides itself on quality, reliable service at the lowest possible cost. A variety of rates and services are available to meet customer needs including:
