Arts & Entertainment
All That Jazz, America’s River Festival, Taste of Dubuque, and the Dubuque County Fair are a just a sample of the community events that draw more than a million visitors each year to the area. The Port of Dubuque is also a magnet for visitors and community members. The Port is home to the Smithsonian affiliated National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark, Grand River Center conference facility, Diamond Jo Casino, and the Mississippi River Walk. Live theater, musicals, and concerts can be enjoyed at the Grand Opera House and the Five Flags Civic Center. From classic ballet to contemporary music, a variety of performing arts are showcased throughout the year. Dubuque is also proud to have its own symphony orchestra. From river cruises, gambling at the Dubuque Greyhound Park and Casino or the Diamond Jo Casino, visiting the museums, or just sitting back for a film at one of our movie theater complexes, the possibilities for fun are endless.


Sports & Recreation
Across the Dubuque region you can find limestone bluffs, rolling hills, and flat valleys. The terrain is unique in Iowa and the proximity of the Mississippi River has created a city with many things to experience year-round. Eagle Point Park offers breathtaking views of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the Mississippi River flowing below. The area has a vast array of organized sport activities, including hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis, cricket, and swimming. The City of Dubuque also features two private and nine public golf courses. Greater Dubuque lies on the edge of the Mississippi River, which is always bustling with activity. Boating and fishing are two popular activities on the Mississippi. Kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, and wake boarding are popular during the summer months while winter months are excellent for ice skating and ice fishing. You can ski on the river during the summer or on the slopes at Sundown or Chestnut Ski Resort in the winter.

The Heritage Trail offers an excellent opportunity to run or bike while enjoying nature. The packed limestone and dirt trail is 25 miles long and extends out to the “Field of Dreams” movie site located in Dyersville, Iowa. Nature lovers also enjoy trail systems at the Arboretum, Botanical Gardens, and the Mines of Spain—just to name a few.
